Minnesota Sky / Iceland Sky (2001 / 2002) Minnesota Sky and Iceland Sky are related installations; Minnesota Sky was exhibited in Minneapolis, Minnesota in December 2001 and Iceland Sky was exhibited in Reykjavik, Iceland in March 2002. Eight photographs image the sky, and letters written from the memory of a single original discuss the pictures. The letters- each different, meandering, inadequate- discuss the possibility of a collaboration between the artists and debate different strategies for joint work. Our flawed attempts to rewrite a text reflect our divergent interests, and the viewer can piece together a portrait of the artists and our collaboration through their imperfect attempts to rewrite our own history. You could take credit for the pictures if you would like. I'm not sure who the contractor or who the contracted is in this case. I mean it is kind of your project. You gave me the idea, but I asked you to take credit for it. So that makes me the contractor. There is a spot of color in all the photos that is off. I think this may be a fingerprint of the camera. If someone were to do a little investigating they could find the camera that I own and assume that I took the pictures. No one can say that you did not take the pictures. I have not told anyone about this except for you. I'm not really sure that that is important, though. |
